Our Programmes Include

The YMCA works with 12 – 24 year old migrants and refugees who are new to the area – to give them some good ‘Kiwi’ experiences and an introduction to the wonderful places in our region. With the help of staff and regular volunteers, you’ll discover everything from cooking “Kiwi Kai” to learning about flora and fauna, new places and spaces and get an introduction to Maori culture as well. Programmes meet every Tuesday and run for 10 weeks. Engage runs in Palmerston North only.

Any queries please feel free to contact us.

YMCA Youth Mentoring matches trained staff on a one-to-one basis with a young person in need of additional adult support and friendship. YMCA Youth Mentors aim for positive change in behaviour and attitudes. Mentors and mentees work on projects, field trips and other engaging activities. Regular contact creates powerful long-term change with the young people involved. Mentoring is available in both Whanganui and Palmerston North.

Raise Up

Raise Up is a leadership programme run every weekend. It gives teens the chance to have a voice, learn team and leadership skills, visit new places and try new things. Raise Up activities include a mixture of regular weekly activities, events, workshops and personal development options. These are tailored to the interests of our young people and include sports, music, dance, leadership training, art and much more. Raise Up is designed to offer youth a safe and positive environment in which to relax, socialise and achieve their goals. The programme is run by Raise Up crews who are a group of selected young people representing youth in the community.
