Junior Sports Leagues Upper Hutt
Junior Sports Leagues are a great community service offered by the YMCA for young people in Upper Hutt.They have proved very popular in the past and we are proud to bring them back in 2020 as the offer numerous benefits including keeping fit, improving coordination, developing skills, building teamwork and developing a healthy competitive spirit all in a fun environment.
At YMCA we offer a variety of sports that your child’s school can be involved in each term. Junior Leagues will be based at YMCA Upper Hutt on Somme Road on Monday evenings and run throughout the year.
These leagues offer the perfect opportunity to challenge your kids and students and keep up their fitness in a fun and social environment.
We would like to see as many schools participating as possible, however, a degree of first come first served will need to apply as numbers are limited.
Term 1 2020 we are introducing Volleyball! In partnership with Capital City Volleyball we are introducing a modified game of Volleyball that will suit children of all abilities. The games is played on a Badminton sized court with a net height of around 2 meters. The game is played 4 vs 4 players and the subs rotate on and off the court so everyone gets to play in all positions.
The basic rules of the defer for each year groups;
Year 1-4’s To earn points the team must eliminate all their’s opponent’s players, They do this by catching and throwing the ball over the net trying to get their opponents to misplay the ball. After each throw to team must all rotate clock wise.
Year 5-6’s To earn points the team winning with 3 contacts earns a point.
Year 7-8’s To earn points the team who wins the rally will get the point.
Please see detailed rules in the links on the right side of this page.
