Free Youth Guarantee Education Courses for young people aged 16-19 Years
At the YMCA we believe all youth deserve the right to gain their education and as students come to us from different walks of life, different schooling backgrounds and different cultural backgrounds we tailor learning needs to the individual. We will assist you by understanding your study or career aspirations and assist you in layering the foundations to achieve these future goals and ambitions.
We have a vibrant community space for young people to receive a meaningful education. We have a huge focus on authentic ‘hands on’ learning, providing opportunities to achieve unit standards through sport, culture, community work and hospitality. Term 1 - Monday 16 January – Thursday 13 April
Term 2 - Wednesday 26 April – Friday 7 July
Term 3 - Monday 24 July – Friday 29 September
Term 4 - Monday 9 October – Friday 15 December.
9am – 3pm Monday to Thursday
9am – 12.30pm Friday.
If you need any extra tuition or help with non-course related matters, a tutor is available Monday to Thursday between 3pm and 4pm.
Morning tea is 10.30am – 10.45am and lunch breaks are 12.30pm to 1pm (except Fridays).
There are no classes on the following days:
Monday 5 June – Queens Birthday
Monday 23 October – Labour Day.
Course offered at YMCA
We offer four courses which count towards your NCEA Level 1 or NCEA Level 2. You can enrol at anytime throughout the year subject to class numbers. Click on the course name below to view the brochure for more information.
You may be eligible for a student allowance through Studylink for these courses if you’re 18 years and over. Travel assistance is available for all students.
